As an osteopathic medical student, I would have to disagree with your comment. We receive nutritional information integrated into each system we cover rather than just one course on its own. Our first 8 hours of cardiology were spent learning about atherosclerosis and hyperlipidemia–and how to prevent those things from happening, not just treat them. Diet is, unfortunately, only 1/3 of what determines cholesterol levels; the others are exercise and genetics.

maybe he has health disease that you don’t know about. don’t assume that because he is a little overweight doesn’t mean he is lazy or doesn’t exercise.

Doctors get A LOT more than just a few hours of nutrition classes….as a soon to be nurse I have had many hours of nutrition training…I can promise you…doctors get a LOT more training than we do…plus..they delve much deaper into the physiology of it than even nurses…thats not to say that they are experts..but they do deserve a lot of respect…they earned it!

When it comes to lowering cholesterol, doctors are quite ignorant. They receive a couple of hours in nutrition training so they have no idea how effective a low fat vegan diet is at lowering cholesterol levels. Dr. Esselstyn will tell you his cholesterol level at the beginning of his presentations. Proof of his credibility. He used to do surgery, now he teaches nutrition.

Wow..quite a few of you are really short sighted, you need to remember, just because he is overweight does not make him stupid..in fact I am sure he is brilliant. Have you heard “dont judge a book by it’s cover?” That is as bad as being a racist! Take his advice,he know’s what he is talking about. I would like to know how many of you,who posted negatively, are nurses or doctors! Usually when someone is struggling with weight, it has more to do with their feelings and emotions, not brain matter.

Never take advice on health care from a fat doctor.
Good points, LtteBuster and Sarkerm2.
Only about 1/3 of the cholesterol in your body comes from the food you eat. If you eat less cholesterol, your liver makes more. People with very low cholesterol suffer from depression and even suicidal tendencies!
There is no correlation between cholesterol and heart disease. Check out a book entitled The Great Cholesterol Con by Doctor Malcolm Kendrik. He also has a few videos on You Tube.

first., you have elevated liver enzymes. this must be your primary concern. why, because if you think that cholesterol levels
mean a shorter life span you are misinformed. many people die who have had a recent blood test. when this group of dead people blood tests were reviewed half had high cholesterol half did
not. cholesterol had no impact on impending cardiac death. hope this helps.

does anyone know how long you have to have high cholesterol for it to harm your arteries. i got me cholesterol levels check and the were high. my total cholesterol was 256. my doctor said that was really high. he would have described me medications to lower my cholesterol but my liver enzymes were elevated.
can someone please respond.

I am now off my Advicor prescription by using Sterolyn. My total cholesterol has dropped from 213 to 183 and my HDL increased 7 points since I went on this product. I’m happy to get results w/o the side effects of the statin prescription drugs out there.

Lenghten Life I wouldn’t be sure. There are 300 processes in your body that use Cholesterol. What you have to watch out for is quality of Cholesterol. SMall particles get easily oxidized that is why it sets only in Arterial walls with high oxygen. How do you make high quality cholesterol. That is done through diet.
Also essential fatty acids decrease inflamation so your body needs less cholesterol to stay healthier.
Cholesterol is also a MOTHER of all Hormones,
